Though falling just short of its $275 million break-even point with a $274 million haul, MGM had been making headway on a sequel until this past week brought word that Tomb Raider 2 was scrapped and now word is coming out about why it isn't moving forward. Helmed by Roar Uthaug on a script from Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Alastair Siddons, which was based on a story treatment from the former and Evan Daugherty, the film scored largely mixed reviews from critics for its straightforward plot, though the action sequences, recapturing of the serious tone from 2013's Tomb Raider and Vikander's performance garnered generally favorable reactions.
